Text: This assay quantifies the free acid, glycine-conjugate & taurine-conjugate forms of cholic, chenodeoxycholic, deoxycholic, and ursodeoxycholic acids. Bile acids are needed for cholesterol & fat-soluble vitamin absorption, and to provide resistance to overgrowth of intestinal bacteria. May be measured to investigate obstructive cholestasis in pregnancy
