Vitamin D Testing is Now Performed
At AMS Lab Wichita
(Effective Immediately)
Vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy
Beginning March 15 th, 2010, Affiliated Medical Services Laboratory, Inc. will be performing Vitamin D testing in-house on a daily basis. With our acquisition of a new Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) we are now able to further speed the turn around and lower the cost of this increasingly valuable assay. Vitamin D testing has long been used for the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia and ruling out Vitamin D deficiency as a cause of bone disease. Over the past few years many studies have been undertaken to support claims as diverse as “Can Vitamin D bolster immunity?” (Future Microbiology, December 2009) “Vitamin D deficiency as a causal agent in chronic tension-type headaches” (Headache, December 2009), and Correlations of Vitamin D levels and SLE (Current Opinions in Rheumatology, September 2008) There are many, many more studies under way linking this substance to heart disease, hypertension, cancer and other pathologies.
