Quality Control and Quality Assurance
AMS Laboratory believes in promptly delivering
accurate lab results. AMS continuously looks at
systems and processes to make sure we are meeting
the needs of our clients.
Internal Quality Control
Accuracy and
precision of each test methodology is continuously
monitored.
High quality control materials with known values
are run with patient samples to insure each
patient run is valid. Each quality control result
is
reviewed by testing personnel before results
are released.
Rules are established for each procedure to
determine if a result is valid and can be released.
Daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance is performed
on laboratory equipment. Maintenance records,
as well as repairs, are documented. Records
are also
kept of reagent lot numbers.
External Quality Control
AMS Laboratory
participates in external quality control programs
from the College of American Pathologists and
The American Proficiency Institute. Samples
are periodically
sent to the lab as unknowns. These samples
are run routinely with patient samples and
results
are submitted for comparison with other participants
in the programs. Results of proficiency testing
surveys are reviewed by testing personnel,
management, and the Medical Director.
Quality Assurance
AMS Laboratory has
ongoing internal assessments designed to insure
and improve
quality. Quality monitoring is performed on
specific analytes in addition to running quality
control
samples and participating in proficiency testing.
Quality assurance projects focus on a test
or an area we have identified for improvement.
Pre-analytical,
analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing
are constantly scrutinized in search for ways
to improve the delivery of lab results. Blind
samples
are randomly introduced into routine runs as
an additional system check.
Procedure Manuals
AMS Laboratory has
written procedure manuals documenting every
procedure performed.
The procedures are written following NCCLS
guidelines and include information such as
reporting limits,
reference ranges, methodology, and other information
related to each specific test.
Client Services
AMS Laboratory has a
Client Services Department to receive phone
calls. They
give results, fill supply orders, and answer
any questions you may have about lab tests.
Client Services is familiar with every aspect
of AMS
Laboratory,
so if they cannot answer your questions immediately,
they will connect you with someone who can.
A log is kept of all incoming calls, and the
log
is reviewed
with the goal of identifying ways to improve
service. Client complaints are documented and
reviewed promptly
so solutions can be implemented.
