Historical
Information
AMS
was established in 1983 as a Regional Independent
Reference Laboratory, and operated as a for-profit
company, owned by the Saint Francis Healthcare
Corporation. AMS was created due to the uncertain
future hospitals faced with the introduction of
prospective payment and DRGs. Executives from the
commercial reference laboratory business were recruited
to design, build, and execute a competitive service
package that would compete with any reference laboratory
currently in the market place. The primary goal
of AMS was to generate profits from the sale of
laboratory testing services to physicians, government,
and industry, and stem the flow of healthcare dollars
to distant chain lab operations. AMS's sales
and service success
ensured its ability to contribute profits back to the sponsoring congregation,
the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, who in turn channeled those profits back
into healthcare for all Kansans, and the continued support of the healing
ministry of the SSM.
Today,
20 years since inception, AMS continues operation, now under the Via Christi
Health System. The goals have not changed. However, the Sisters of St. Joseph
and the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother now sponsor AMS and its mission. This
combined sponsorship has strengthened the companys position in the competitive
laboratory services market.
AMS now operates from a 17,000-sq. ft. central production facility located at
2916 E. Central in Wichita, Kansas. This new facility combined with a staff of
highly competent and dedicated employees, under the direction of board certified
pathologists, provides laboratory test results and valuable consultation services
to regional hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, industry, and many physicians.
Since its inception, AMS has embraced a tradition of teamwork with its employees
and clients to continuously improve services and establish new ones to meet the
needs of patients and clients throughout Kansas. |
