URGENT TECHNICAL UPDATE: 10/25/04 BD VACUTAINER® SST™ GEL BARRIER TUBES

URGENT UPDATEUrgent Technical Update
Please Read
Effective Immediately October 25, 2004

In the October 11, 2003 bulletin we alerted all clients to discontinue using the BD Vacutainer® SST™ Gel barrier tubes only for the following tests:

  • Total T3 AMS Test Code #7040050
  • Total T4 (Thyroxine) AMS Test Code #7040020
  • Cortisol AM AMS Test Code #7010020
  • Cortisol PM AMS Test Code #7040021

Becton Dickinson has now released the adjusted product and has confirmed the elimination of the previously identified interferences.

AMS has ordered sufficient quantity to replace your present inventory with the adjusted product, which is designated with an Alpha character at the end of the product lot number. If you do not order the testing above there is no need to replace the product because no other assays were affected.

If you need to order the new BD Vacutainer® SST™ Gel barrier tubes you may order through customer service, fill out an order supply and send it with the courier, or on the website at http://www.amsreferencelab.com/supplies/order.html.

Please continue with collecting the three tests referenced above in red top tubes until you receive the new product. For any additional information, please contact Bill Combs or Margo McDonald at 1-316-265-4533.

Sincerely,
AMS Technical Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

URGENT TECHNICAL UPDATE: 10/11/04 BD VACUTAINER® SST™ GEL BARRIER TUBES

URGENT UPDATEUrgent Technical Update
Please Read
Effective Immediately October 11, 2004

Recent communication from Becton Dickinson Diagnostics pertaining to BD Vacutainer® SST™ Gel barrier tubes indicates that these tubes should no longer be used when collecting a specimen for the following three (3) assays:

  • Total T3
  • Total T4 (Thyroxine)
  • Cortisol

However, these tubes are still appropriate and usable for all other applicable assays. Only the three tests listed above are affected, and must be drawn in a regular (non-gel) red top tube, allowed to clot, centrifuged, and the serum transferred to a transport tube/vial. This change has impacted virtually all laboratories worldwide that use the above described Vacutainer® brand tube.

Specimens received by AMS for the above tests using BD Vacutainer® SST™ Gel barrier tubes will be rejected. Laboratories nationwide are adopting this protocol.

Please continue with the specimen preparation as described in this bulletin until further notice. We anticipate a remedy to this situation in the very near future, and we will communicate again at that time. For any additional information, please contact Bill Combs or Margo McDonald at 1-316-265-4533.

Sincerely,
AMS Technical Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AFFILIATED MEDICAL SERVICE LABORATORY, INC (AMS)
WINS WICHITA BUSINESS JOURNAL 2004 "BEST PLACE TO WORK" AWARD
Wichita Best Places to Work

The Wichita Business Journal announced today the results of their regional "Best Place To Work" survey. Affiliated Medical Services Laboratory, Inc, (AMS) was one of ten winners in the 51-150-employee category. Right Management Consultants is the survey sponsor and the survey was administered by Quantum Market Research. The WBJ reported that over 7,400 surveys were submitted and reviewed in determining the winning companies. John Ek, publisher of the WBJ said,"we were overwhelmed with the interest in the business community and pleased with the participation by the employees. AMS President and CEO, Ed Harned said, "community based companies like AMS understand that the attitudes of their employees have a very direct and positive result on our success and growth". "This recognition is especially rewarding considering the fact that employees who completed the Internet based survey were assured of complete anonymity and could respond to the questions however they wanted", Harned says.
